Under the terms of the agreement, Fabrinet, a provider of foundry services to optical component, module, and subsystem OEMs, will transfer process technologies for Infinera’s optical subsystems to Fabrinet’s Thailand-based manufacturing center and commence manufacturing, serving as a second source supplier for Infinera subsystems.
Infinera was recently ranked as the # 1 vendor in the North American multi-reach DWDM (dense wavelength-division multiplexing) market for 2007, according to a report on the optical networking market published by independent research firm Ovum RHK.
“The industry’s enthusiastic response to Infinera’s Digital Optical Networking systems challenged us to simultaneously increase capacity, diversify manufacturing partners and leverage our scale to deliver better costs for our customers,” said Infinera VP of Strategic Materials, Minoo Mortazavi. “We responded with an outsourcing strategy based on dual-source contract manufacturers for both our digital and our optical capabilities. With its worldwide reputation for precision optical engineering, world class quality and unique ability to provide cost-effective turnkey production from component through system assembly, Fabrinet was chosen as one of our preferred manufacturing partners.”
“We’re very proud to count Infinera as a customer,” said Tom Mitchell, Chairman and CEO of Fabrinet. “Their momentum is testimony to their commitment to quality products and that’s a commitment we share. We can help fuel their continued momentum as a trusted partner for the manufacturing of complex system level solutions.”
An approved manufacturing services provider for some of the largest datacom and telecom buyers, Fabrinet has completed the successful transfer of complex manufacturing operations for many global organizations. Fabrinet’s comprehensive approach to process transfer ensures the on-time, on-budget transition of exacting opto-electronic manufacturing processes to the lower cost regions of Southeast Asia.
